Ithmid Surma (Antimony)

According to Hadeeth, the Ithmid Surma clears
the eyes and makes the eye lashes grow.
Although many seem to claim to have Ithmid,
the reality doesn’t actually seem to be such.

Al Munawwarah Products stopped stocking Ithmid
for about five years due to not being convinced
about the authenticity of most Ithmid found in
the market.

Ithmid Surma: Almost all books and websites nowadays would translate Ithmid as antimony. However when looking for the attributes of Ithmid in the classical works, it doesn't fit with antimony. It is maybe on this basis that most of the surma sold in the name of Ithmid nowadays don't possess the description of Ithmid as mentioned in the classical books. Hazrat Buraidah رضي الله عنه says that Nabi ﷺ said that 3 things increase the vision(البصر) ♦️Ithmid (surma) (اثمد), ♦️to see greenery (الخصرة) (plant & etc) & ♦️to see a beautiful face (وجه حسن).[Kanz al-Ummal: 28314]

Hazrat Abdullah Bin Abbas رضي الله عنه says that Rasoolullah ﷺ said:The best surma you have is Ithmid (اثمد)♦️it makes the vision (البصر) clear &♦️makes the hair (eye lashes) grow.[Ibn Majah: 3626; Book. 31; English vol. 4;Book. 31, Hadees. 3497]

METHOD OF APPLICATION: Narrated by Tirmidhi that Ibn Abbass (Radi Allaho Anhu) said: "Whenever the Messenger of Allah (Sallallaho Alaihe Wasallam) used to apply Kohl, he would use it thrice in the right eye; beginning with it and finishing with it and twice in the left eye.” Use preferably before sleeping.
